The Silk Samagra-2 focused on scaling India's sericulture ecosystem under the Ministry of Textiles. As reported by PIB, 112,385 beneficiaries had been supported under Silk Samagra-2 as of February 2026. This included 65,566 sericulture farmers and 6,141 reeling/re-reeling units. Between 2021–22 and January 2026, ₹4,390.68 crore had been released under the scheme, with ₹1,374.44 crore allocated to states for beneficiary-oriented components.

Listed below are major initiatives taken to improve the current landscape of Indian sericulture landscape:

Modernizing Handloom Production in Udalguri, Assam

Focus Area: Technology adoption to improve productivity and livelihoods in handloom weaving.

Backed by: A March 2026 academic study evaluating modernization initiatives in Udalguri, Assam. (Source: SCIEPublish)

Key Findings: The introduction of modern weaving equipment, including jacquards and warping drums, improved weaving productivity, increased household incomes, enhanced market access, and strengthened the economic participation of women artisans. The study demonstrates that selective technology adoption can modernize traditional handloom production while preserving artisanal craftsmanship.

Mysuru Integrated Silk Park for Enhanced Silk Value Chain

Focus Area: Integrated infrastructure development for silk processing and value addition.

Backed by: Karnataka Government's 2026 announcement of the Integrated Silk Park at Thandavapura, Mysuru.

Key Findings: The proposed Silk Park will integrate silk reeling, weaving, digital embroidery, quality testing, packaging, and marketing within a single ecosystem. The project is expected to benefit more than 34,000 sericulture farmers by improving downstream processing capabilities, enhancing value addition, and strengthening the competitiveness of Karnataka's silk industry.

Handloom Hackathon 2026 for Innovation in India's Handloom Sector

Focus Area: Digital innovation, design solutions, and sustainability for the handloom industry.

Backed by: The Office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms) through the Handloom Hackathon 2026

Key Findings: The initiative brought together startups, students, designers, and technologists to develop innovative solutions addressing productivity, market access, and sustainability challenges in the handloom sector. By fostering collaboration between technology and traditional weaving communities, the hackathon aims to accelerate digital transformation and enhance the competitiveness of India's handloom ecosystem.
